Wet 'n Wild at Goodwood Revival 2024

Tyres spinning, plenty of oversteer, and that was just in the car park.

While the rain and mud may have claimed its fair pair of shoes, the Revival once again reaffirmed its place as one of the world's most cherished motorsport gatherings, and the tricky conditions only added to the on-track action.

Racing at its finest

The RAC TT Celebration was undoubtedly one of the standout races at this year's Revival. Jake Hill and Olly Bryant, starting from the back of the grid in a 1964 AC Cobra, fought their way to the front, only to have victory stolen in the final laps by BTCC rival Tom Ingram in a TVR Griffith. Seeing Touring Car drivers go head-to-head in classic 1960s sports cars around the Goodwood circuit was truly incredible, and the level of driving skill on display was exceptional.

The Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy was another standout race for us, with Jimmie Johnson and Dario Franchitti taking the win in an achingly beautiful blue DB4 GT previously driven by Moss.

A wet and slippery track also provided the perfect canvas for drivers to get loose. It seemed Richard Woolmer had spoken to Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift star Sung Kang before he got behind the wheel of the Austin Healey 3000 Mk1...

The year's Revival also made motorsport history by becoming the first historic event to run its entire race schedule on sustainable fuel, and a quick chat with former Apex Interviewee Martin Popilka confirmed that Adrian Newey’s lightweight E-type Jaguar was running on P1 Fuels.

A weekend of celebration

More than 80 Meyers Manx dune buggies celebrated the car’s 60th anniversary with a parade lap opening each day, which was accompanied by the European unveiling of the Meyers Manx 2.0 Electric Prototype, which took centre stage at the Earls Court Motor Show.

Celebrations were also held for the late John Surtees, who made his four wheeled racing debut on 19th March 1960, aged 26, at the Goodwood Circuit, where he raced a Formula Junior Cooper T52 and finished second to Jim Clark. Two months later he was driving in Formula 1!

There was also a strong military presence at this year's event as the Revival celebrated the 80th anniversary of D-Day, with the largest gathering of military vehicles ever assembled at Goodwood since the War. The Spitfire air-display was certainly a fan favourite.

Art and racing collide: Daniel Arsham x Team Ikuzawa

Possibly the most photographed car of the weekend was the Porsche 904 sporting a bespoke-livery designed in collaboration with Daniel Arsham and Mai Ikuzawa. It was a project that underscored the historical ties both Daniel Arsham and Team Ikuzawa have with Porsche.

Mai Ikuzawa drove at last year’s Festival of Speed, and Daniel Arsham has developed a significant relationship with Porsche through his unique artistic vision and collaboration with the brand.

Bonhams Auction Highlights

On the Auction front, a number of high profile cars went under the hammer. Highlights included a 1998 Porsche 911 Type 993 Turbo Coupé which sold for £614,200 and was the last air-cooled 911 to leave the factory, a 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Corto Spider Recreation which sold for £552,000 and a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS Touring Coupé which sold for £471,500.

Want in on the action? Fear not, Goodwood Revival will be back next year on Friday 12 – Sunday 14 September.
